As a parent I am not wrong when I say this, people like to tell horrifying stories to new parents about the newborns. They like to brag how your life would change completely and your kid will be the center of the universe for you and so on. There is uncountable advice for you about the health, care, hygiene, milk, bath and what not. There are so many noises that it becomes completely impossible to filter what’s useful from the useless bunch. However, that’s one of the challenges of being a mom.

Speaking of challenges, the one I really had trouble with in the early months of my daughter was sleeping. Stacey is lovely. I like to believe she is well-mannered and well-behaved. She doesn’t panic around large groups of people. Mostly I and my husband don’t have any trouble with her. But (there is always a “but”) she took a long time to develop a sound sleeping routine.

She is almost a year old now, I am excited for her birthday but she started sleeping properly a couple of months ago. She used to be fine and happy throughout the day but most of the nights, we would have trouble getting her to sleep. So our initial few months with Stacey were spent devising solutions to get her to sleep.

Baby Cry Detector

Our first resort was the baby cry detector. It is an app which lets you know why your baby is crying. There used to be some nights where Stacey would cry for reasons not known to me or my husband. We took help from the baby cry detector, hoping that it would tell us what’s wrong with Stacey so we help her and then she would sleep.

Well, let’s just say baby cry detector did very little for us to actually stop Stacey from crying and then sleeping. It turns out, most of the time Stacey was crying for attention so that we would play with her instead of making her sleep.

Baby Bedding

Those were desperate times and we were doing anything and everything to get a sound sleeping routine for our daughter. One of the ideas was to get different baby bedding for her cot. Maybe the material wasn’t right for her skin. Although we had bought the finest quality of baby bedding from MyBabyStore, we decided to give it a shot. The collection of baby bedding was so impressive in a way that it tells you everything in detail before buying the goods. One can also go to IZZZ to buy or compare baby bedding in Australian market.

So we bought some new baby bedding of totally different material but it also didn’t do us any good. The situation was same. The funny thing to note here is we went for this idea knowing that Stacey had no problem sleeping on the same baby bedding during the daytime.

Anyway, we tried a lot of tricks (some stupid, some valid) to make Stacey sleep properly but she simply refused to and then gradually our daughter started sleeping at nights. She began with four hours straight and then five, six, and seven. Now Stacey sleeps for seven to eight hours straight every night.

What worked to develop this sleep routine? Honestly, I don’t know. Babies do things at their own will and as soon as you accept that, being a parent becomes more joyous.
